Senior Mechanical Building Services Engineer / MEP

Overview:

The Building Services team is renowned for its expertise in designing mechanical systems for diverse buildings, from national infrastructure projects to multi and high end residential properties. We deliver comprehensive solutions, collaborating seamlessly with project teams to ensure the integration of MEP systems while prioritising energy efficiency, safety, and occupant comfort.

Our work goes beyond simply meeting local building standards-we focus on exceeding expectations through the use of innovative technologies like renewable energy solutions, passive cooling systems, and intelligent controls.

Summary of the role:

As a Senior Mechanical Building Services Engineer, the role will see you lead and deliver high-quality mechanical engineering designs across a wide range of projects. You will play a pivotal role in the coordination of MEP systems, working closely with clients to interpret project needs and deliver practical, cost-effective, and innovative mechanical solutions.

You will:

▪Lead the mechanical design process, ensuring the integration of systems from concept through to completion.

▪Develop detailed mechanical specifications and calculations, ensuring that designs are sustainable, compliant, and cost-efficient.

▪Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, managing both technical and resource aspects of projects.

▪Mentor junior engineers, guiding them in design and best practices while fostering their professional development.

▪Take responsibility for the accuracy, feasibility, and performance of mechanical systems across all RIBA stages.

The team:

You’ll join a team of professionals who thrive on working on exciting and diverse projects. The team’s approach combines technical expertise with creative solutions, ensuring that every project exceeds expectations. This company places a high value on attracting and nurturing talent to ensure a collaborative and inclusive environment that promotes career development.

Key expertise required:

▪Technical Skills: Good knowledge of CIBSE, Building Regulations, British Standards, energy modelling tools (e.g., IES). Good engineering theory, knowledge of engineering principles across multiple sectors and able to think outside the box.

▪Mechanical Engineering: Strong skills in HVAC and public health design, thermal modelling, pipe sizing (gas, drainage, hot and cold water), and pump and fan calculations.

▪Sustainability Focus: A clear understanding of sustainable building practices and experience in delivering energy-efficient designs.

▪Client Focused: Ability to work closely with clients, interpreting their needs and delivering practical engineering solutions.

Qualifications and experience required:

▪An accredited academic qualification in mechanical or building services engineering (HNC, HND, BEng, BSc, MEng) or exceptional relevant experience, ideally with progression towards professional status (IEng or CEng).

▪Experience with modern design tools and a solid understanding of mechanical and public health systems design and MEP integration.

▪Proven experience in the design and delivery of building services projects, ideally across multiple sectors including residential, commercial, or industrial.
