Passive Fire Engineer / Designer
Key Responsibilities include:
· Review project fire strategies, employer’s requirements, and specifications to identify passive fire
protection obligations.
· Develop passive fire protection designs:
o Fire compartmentation layouts review
o Firestopping and penetration sealing details
o Cavity barriers and fire-resisting construction interfaces
· Assess service penetrations and construction interfaces against:
o Approved Document B
o Relevant BS / EN standards
o Tested fire performance evidence (e.g. EN 1366, BS 476).
· Produce and review:
o Passive fire design reports
o Firestopping schedules and specifications
o Technical sketches and coordinated drawings (2D / 3D).
· Coordinate with architectural, MEP, structural, and contractor teams to resolve compliance and
constructability issues.
· Support BIM-led coordination using Revit and Navisworks (where applicable).
· Undertake site inspections, surveys, and technical audits of passive fire installations.
· Provide technical support during construction and respond to RFIs.
· Assist with handover documentation, and compliance evidence.
Skills & Experience
Essential
· Experience in passive fire protection design, inspection, or compliance within the UK.
· Strong understanding of UK fire safety legislation and guidance (ADB, Building Regulations).
· Ability to interpret fire test evidence and certification.
· Experience producing technical reports and drawings.
· Clear written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable
· Experience using Revit / Navisworks or other BIM tools.
· Knowledge of third-party certification schemes (e.g. FIRAS, BM TRADA).
· Site experience within live construction environments.
· Awareness of the Building Safety Act and Gateway requirements.
Qualifications
· Degree or HNC/HND in Construction, Engineering, Fire Engineering, or related discipline
(or equivalent experience).
· Working towards or holding professional membership (e.g. IFSM, IFE) is advantageous.
